Spanish clubs confirm CL squads

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico and Sevilla have finalised their squads for this season’s Champions League.

The most notable inclusions in Madrid’s list of 25 players are Fabio Coentrao, who has returned from his loan spell at Monaco but is still some way from being match-fit, and Martin Odegaard, the Norwegian starlet staying put after seeing a proposed season-long switch to Rennes fail to materalise.

However, an error on UEFA’s official website sees Coentrao named as a striker, not a left-back.

Barca, meanwhile, have named all 22 of their first-team players, plus eight from Barca B in Jose Suárez, Wilfrid Kaptoum, Carles Alena, Marc Cardona, Alex Carbonell, Nili, Marlon Santos and Sergi Palencia to constitute their List B.

Atleti too have not dropped anyone significant but have selected outcast Alessio Cerci, whose proposed, deadline-day move to Bologna collapsed due to a failed medical, along with promising youngsters Nicolas Schiappacasse and Caio Henrique.

Finally, Sevilla have registered 23 players, four of which trained at Spanish clubs between the ages of 15 and 21 (Vitolo, Sergio Escudero, Vicente Iborra and Pablo Sarabia) and two canteranos in Sergio Rico and Borja Lasso.

On the other hand, Michael Krohn-Dehli and David Soria have been omitted as they are nursing long-term injuries.
