Tamudo returns to Espanyol

Espanyol have announced the return of club legend Raul Tamudo in an executive capacity.

Tamudo scored 140 goals in 387 appearances for Espanyol between 1997 and 2010 and, having left on bad terms under the side’s former management, will work alongside new CEO Ramon Robert to assist with “sports-institutional coordination”.

“The former player, one of the best players in the club’s history, joins the professional structure of the entity responsible for sports-institutional coordination,” read a statement on the Catalans’ official website.

“This way, the highest Catalan goalscorer of all time is added to new and exciting Blanquiazul project, in which he will carry out the functions of sport and institutional representation plus implementation of projects aimed to improve the club’s facilities and assist in the overall training of players in the youth academy, as well as support the professionals in the first team.

“As an executive of the entity, Tamudo will report directly to the Director General of the club and offer all his noted experience to the development of youth football and professional football at Espanyol.

“Taking advantage of his stay in Barcelona and just before returning to China, the President, Chen Yansheng, has welcomed back Raul Tamudo to the club.”
