Arbeloa, Debuchy to Espanyol?

It is reported that Espanyol are in talks to sign free agent Alvaro Arbeloa.

The 33-year-old is still without a club following his release from Real Madrid at the end of last season and is therefore available on a free transfer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Blanquiazules Coach Quique Sanchez Flores has spoken to the former Liverpool and Deportivo defender as he looks to strengthen his backline.

Espanyol have conceded eight goals in their opening two matches of the La Liga season, but Flores thinks Arbeloa’s experience would bring some much-needed assurance to his team.

Furthermore, the veteran’s versatility means he could play in any position in the Catalan side’s back four.

Another one of Flores’ transfer deadline day targets is said to be Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy, who could reportedly head to Espanyol on loan.
