Lopez excited by Espanyol return

David Lopez is excited to have returned to Espanyol but has called for patience from the club’s fans.

The 26-year-old has moved back to Catalonia following a two-year spell at Italian club Napoli and, speaking at the official presentation of his return, he said it was time to come home.

“Thank you for letting me come back,” Lopez began. “I thank President Chen for making my return possible.

“It is an exciting project, I have seen it from outside and it was clear to me that I wanted to be part of it.

“I hope that it allows us to dream in the future.

“It was time to come back. I will try to help as much as I can.”

Lopez feels he improved as a player during his time in Serie A, where he was also able to taste European football.

“I worked with very good Coaches, with teammates of a high level who helped me improve. I am a more complete player.”

Finally, the midfielder stressed Espanyol need time to adapt as new signings bed into life at the club.

“The team needs time, there have been a lot of changes. The Coach knows very well the problems we have and we have to hope the group comes together.”
