‘Sevilla have bitter taste’

Jorge Sampaoli says Sevilla have ‘a bitter taste’ after they were unable to defeat Villarreal on Sunday.

The Rojiblancos failed to replicate their attacking prowess from last week’s 6-4 defeat of Espanyol, having to settle for a goalless draw at El Madrigal.

“In the first half we had more options, in the second they had 15 good minutes,” Sampaoli said at his post-match Press conference. “We leave with a bitter taste because we wanted the three points.

“We were lacking a little more presence up front against a team who defended well. In attack we weren’t precise and Villarreal cancelled us out defensively.

“We wanted to win today and it didn’t happen. There is nothing else to do other than work towards getting back the performance from the last match.”

Sampaoli also praised the performance of goalkeeper Sergio Rico, who produced several good saves to deny the Yellow Submarine the three points.

“He was very good when the team needed him.”
