Setien praises ‘spectacular’ Las Palmas

Las Palmas Coach Quique Setien heaped praise on his side following their 5-1 thrashing of Granada.

Two goals from Nabil El Zhar, in addition to strikes by Kevin-Prince Boateng, Sergio Araujo and Momo, saw the Gran Canaria outfit record their second win in as many League games this season. Heading into the international break, Los Amarillos are the surprise early La Liga leaders.

“We had 80 extraordinary minutes and maybe some intensity was missing in the last 10 minutes of the first half,” Setien told reporters following the match at Estadio Gran Canaria.

“The second half was spectacular, we did everything well. The second goal was spectacular and I think it was key.”

Sunday’s win continues Las Palmas’ fine start to the new season, which also saw them record an impressive 4-2 win in Valencia on the opening match-day. However, Setien believes it will be difficult for his players to maintain their current level.

“Today we got three more points which allow us to look to the future with optimism. This match had nothing to do with the one against Valencia.

“We have scored nine goals in two matches, it’s unthinkable! Let’s wait and see because it is difficult to maintain how effective we have been, but today was spectacular.”
