Eusebio confirms Canales return

Eusebio Sacristian has confirmed Sergio Canales’ return from knee ligament damage ahead of Real Sociedad’s trip to Osasuna after eight months out.

La Real were defeated 3-0 at home by Real Madrid in their La Liga opener last weekend but have been boosted by Canales recovering from an ACL injury, although Eusebio made it clear the midfielder was some way from being match-fit, rendering him unlikely to feature on Saturday.

“The defeat affected us, but the week has progressed and we’ve worked to improve what we did wrong and be better for it,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“[Carlos Vela] is working very well and approaching his best form, but in the game [against Madrid], I decided it was better that others played.

“Still, I appreciate his very positive state of mind because he’ll be very important for us this season.

“[On the return of Sergio Canales], this is very good news. He’s trained very well but lacking match-sharpness.

“[Osasuna] are is a team with a lot of spirit, given their promotion to La Liga and good start to this season.

“It’ll also be the first game at their stadium, where their fans will back them, so we have to be very prepared for a game of speed and intensity.

“I’m aware that Osasuna try to keep you in your half of the pitch and pressure you, so we have to get out of that pressure, take control, create chances and exploit them.

“There may be some players leaving, but no-one’s coming in. We’re happy with what we have.”
