Granada suspend record signing

Granada have announced that they have suspended record signing Jose Angulo after the striker failed a drug test.

Angulo became Granada’s most expensive-ever purchase when his €4.5m transfer from Independiente de Valle was completed on August 10, but the Ecuadorian’s future already appears to be in the balance, with Marca citing allegations that his discrepancy is related to cocaine use.

“Granada CF inform that they have received official notification from CONMEBOL, the South American Football Confederation, tonight [Thursday night], which confirms that Jose ‘Tin’ Angulo failed a drug test,” read a statement on the Andalusians’ official website.

“The test was taken during the last Copa Libertadores, when Angulo still played for Independiente del Valle.

“Granada CF have informed Jose ‘Tin’ Angulo that they have suspended his contract, pending the outcome of counteranalysis to be held in the coming days.

“The club want the result of the last test to be favourable for the interests of our player.”
