Escriba: Don’t go crazy…

Fran Escriba reminds Villarreal they have ’90 minutes to score twice’ against Monaco, so ‘it’s essential not to go crazy.’

The Yellow Submarine’s Champions League future hangs in the balance as they go to the principality on the back of a 2-1 defeat at El Madrigal but Escriba wants patience from his side.

“We believe it’s essential not to go crazy thinking we have to score early, or we have to score twice. There are 90 minutes to score two goals. We have variants to deal with this game. The goal that brings us closer to qualification can come at any time. We’re prepared to take a step forward if necessary,” he told reporters, according to AS.

“We can’t make mistakes. If we are able to minimise errors and optimise our definition, we have a lot of chance of qualification. This is a group with experienced players so it’s easier to deal with games like this. We’ve players who’ve played the Champions League or Europa League and know how to deal with it.

“Alexandre Pato has come to be a major player. He’s been extraordinary and he will be with us. He’s still not in optimal form but when he is, he can contribute a lot.”
