‘Perez vetoed Kovacic’s Milan move’

Adriano Galliani has admitted defeat in Milan’s bid to sign Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic as Florentino Perez “told me he wouldn’t give him away”.

Perez was said to have signed off Kovacic’s proposed move to Milan last week, yet he started over Isco and James Rodriguez in Madrid’s 3-0 win at Real Sociedad on Sunday and Galliani revealed the President had personally vetoed the Croatian’s departure.

“Florentino told me he wouldn’t give [Mateo] away,” the CEO was quoted as saying by AS.

“In 1999, I had everything settled with [Xavi Hernandez], but his mother didn’t allow him to move.”
