Vitolo rejects Atleti for Sevilla stay

Sevilla have announced that Vitolo has signed a new, four-year contract with the club on the same day links with Atletico Madrid arose.

A statement on Sevilla’s official website confirms Vitolo has put pen to paper until 2020 and agreed to raise his buyout clause to €35m, both parties acting quickly after AS reported on Saturday morning that Diego Simeone had asked Atleti’s hierarchy about bringing in the winger.

“Negotiations were easy. The club value me a lot and I had the desire to continue with them,” he told the Andalusians’ official website after their dramatic 6-4 win against Espanyol in the evening.

“There were other teams [interested in me], but my family is happy and that’s the most important thing.

“I feel very valued in this club. From Monchi, the President and Coach … my teammates also make me feel good, and the fans acknowledge me too.

“It’s something very beautiful when they call my name. I’m very happy with how much the fans love me.”
