Asenjo: Villarreal aren’t dead

Sergio Asenjo admits Villarreal face a tough ask in their Champions League play-off after losing at home to Monaco but ‘they’re not dead.’

The Yellow Submarine fell to a 2-1 defeat at El Madrigal but the goalkeeper insists the team will keep fighting until the tie is really over.

“We still have to see what happens in the second leg, where the last word will be said. We’re not dead. We have no choice but to go to Monaco and compete, to go forward and try and get a result that would put us through,” Asenjo said, AS reports.

“That’s something we can do because this team has done much more difficult things and can do it again. Now we must focus to start La Liga in the best possible way even though we’re down physically after Monaco because it was a very hard game in the heat.”
