Xavi Torres set for Sporting

Real Betis midfielder Xavi Torres is expected to sign for Sporting Gijon after being told he can leave the Andalusian outfit.

The 29-year-old joined Betis from Getafe in August 2013 but an Achilles tendon injury five months later sidelined him for the rest of the campaign.

Since then Torres has struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting line-up and he has made just 48 League appearances for Los Beticos, scoring two goals.

The Alicante-born player started his career with Villarreal’s youth team before moving on to Barcelona – where he played two first-team games – Malaga and Levante.

Torres still has a year left on his contract at the Benito Villamarin but has been looking to exit the club if a Primera side came along.
