Iniesta out for two weeks, Mathieu three

Barcelona have confirmed that Andres Iniesta will be out for two weeks with a knee injury and Jeremy Mathieu for three due to a hamstring problem.

Mundo Deportivo cites official correspondence from Barca, in which Iniesta suffered “a strained posterior capsule in his right knee” in Sunday’s 2-0 Supercopa win against Sevilla, while Mathieu “tore the distal biceps femoris in his right leg”.

The pair now look set to miss La Blaugrana’s next three games against the Andalusians in the Supercopa second leg, plus La Liga encounters with Real Betis on the opening day of the new season and Athletic Bilbao.

In Mathieu’s case, the international break between August 29 and September 9 means it is likely the defender will be back for the visit of Alaves.
