Llorente ‘right to choose Malaga’

Central defender Diego Llorente is convinced his decision to join Malaga on a season-long loan from Real Madrid was the correct one.

The 22-year-old [pictured, right], who spent last term on a similar arrangement at relegated Rayo Vallecano and was coveted by a number of clubs, also revealed his adaptation at the Costa del Sol club has been easy and he is looking forward to playing in front of the Malaga fans.

“This was a decision I took after weighing up a lot of things and of all the options, some of which were very good ones, this was the most interesting,” Llorente told Cadena Ser.

“I already feel very comfortable here and I’ve adapted well from day one as both my teammates and the coaching staff have made me feel like one of them, so the truth is that it’s been really easy.

“I played in the friendly with Sampdoria at La Rosaleda and if that atmosphere was anything to go by I can’t imagine what it will be like inside the stadium when the real competition starts. It was incredible.

“I played there last year as a visitor and I liked the atmosphere; the fans are always pushing you on and supporting the team.”

Llorente feels a top six finish next season is not beyond the bounds of possibility.

“We are putting together a nice exciting project and the European spots are realistic, so now we have to translate that onto the field of play and return that excitement to the supporters.

“We’ve made pretty good progress so far and are getting better. It’s going well on all levels and we hope to start the League well. I’m already looking forward to it,” maintained the Spain international.
