Villarreal to appoint Escriba?

Villarreal will reportedly appoint former Getafe boss Fran Escriba as their new Coach as it emerges Marcelino was subjected to a player revolt.

According to AS, Escriba will manage Villarreal “for this season”, hinting that he will only sign a one-year contract at El Madrigal.

Escriba rose to prominence when he guided Valencian minnows Elche to midtable in La Liga during the 2014-15 campaign but left after they were demoted as a result of financial irregularities.

He then took charge of Getafe last summer but was sacked in April after a run of 12 games without a win, which ultimately resulted in the side’s relegation to La Liga 2.

The newspaper has also shed more light on Marcelino’s sudden exit from Villarreal as it claims senior players confronted the Coach over his treatment of Mateo Musacchio on Tuesday.

Musacchio was stripped of his status as the Yellow Submarine’s third captain by the Coach, in a move regarded as the final straw by the dressing room.
