Zidane: Madrid not favourites

Zinedine Zidane insists Real Madrid are not favourites to win the European Super Cup against Sevilla on Tuesday.

Madrid will be without key quartet Keylor Navas, Pepe, Toni Kroos, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gareth Bale for the clash with Sevilla in Norway – which will be LIVE on Football Espana – and Zidane believes that, coupled with the Andalusians’ desire, leaves both sides on equal footing

“[Karim Benzema] is fine. He didn’t play the last two games and we won’t risk anything [with him],” the Coach noted at a Press conference.

“He’s worked a lot, done all the preparation and we’ll see what happens. The most important thing is that he is with us and has no problems.

“[On no ‘BBC’], it doesn’t concern me, it is what it is. They had the Euros and normal holidays, as should any player after a hard season [referring to the latter].

“I would’ve liked to have everyone here, but I prefer [Gareth] Bale and [Toni] Kroos to work in Madrid.

“They’ve just returned and are better there. Cristiano and Pepe are getting better, they’ll be back in 10 days … The rest are here and I’m not worried. I’m happy because [the season] has started.

“Madrid aren’t favourites. Both teams want to win and what worries me is our preparation, and we’re prepared.

“There are four or five who aren’t as they played at the European Championship and had their holiday. We’re with those who are prepared to play this game.

“[Preseason in the US] was very good. We had time to prepare. We did well in Canada and then played in the US and were comfortable. Everything was perfect.”
