Swansea close to record Borja deal

Swansea City have confirmed that they are close to signing former Eibar striker Borja Baston in a club-record €17.7m deal from Atletico Madrid.

Swansea’s striker exodus made the signings of two forwards a priority, and having already signed Fernando Llorente, the Premier League side have returned to Spain to bring in Borja – scorer of 18 La Liga goals for Eibar last season.

“I think it is close. I think it is imminent,” Coach Francesco Guidolin was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

“I was happy with the squad before but I am more happy now because, with Fernando Llorente and Borja Baston, I think we have signed two good players, two very important players.”

The 23-year-old has also enjoyed prolific loan spells with Murcia, Huesca, Deportivo La Coruna and Real Zaragoza, scoring 22 goals for the latter in the second tier.

However, he has made just one appearance for Atleti since breaking through 2010, while only two of his 18 goals for Eibar came after February.
