Filipe Luis ‘more ambitious than ever’

Filipe Luis insists Champions League disappointment with Atletico Madrid has made him ‘more ambitious and enthusiastic than ever.’

The defender was part of the Atletico side beaten in the Champions League Final by Real Madrid for the second time in three years, but he has told Marca that he’s recovered from the Milan reverse.

“Without a doubt. It’s hard, it hurts, but when you have enough time in football, you know how to deal with these situations. The good thing is I feel more enthusiastic and ambitious than ever, to keep fighting and keep winning titles. The day we lose that enthusiasm and that ambition yes, then I’d worry,” he said.

“The Final was horrible. Losing another Final was the worst thing that could happen in my career. But on the other hand, when you think about it in the cold light of day, we had a great season with the Champions League Final, 88 points in La Liga, so I think we should be proud.

“I won’t lie, I’ve had bad nights, but the best thing about football is that you have another opportunity to play a match. In my case, I started playing with Brazil. So I have that enthusiasm and that ambition to be at the highest level and be more focused than ever to continue to achieve great success.

“Anything can happen when its penalties. I feel very proud of my teammates who gave their all and made it possible. It wasn’t possible, but I’ll keep trying, today and forever, if not as a player then as a Coach someday. I’ll never stop trying to win the Champions League with Atletico.”

Filipe was asked if he agrees with Diego Simeone that winning is what matters, above all else, and he answered in the affirmative.

“Without a doubt. There’ve been great games and others we’ve won without deserving them, but the ideas are always very clear. The main thing is the philosophy of the Coach, working today, not tomorrow, and that means you are always thinking about the next game,” he replied.
