Atletico Madrid’s friendly in Istanbul with Galatasaray has been cancelled due to the political situation in Turkey.
Gala’s official website confirms Los Colchoneros pulled out of the game, due to be played on Saturday, as a result of the failed military coup and ensuing uncertainty in the country.
“Galatasaray-Atletico has been cancelled at the request of the Spanish club claiming the special circumstances in the country. Atletico have expressed their desire that the game be played at a later date,” AS reports the Gala statement as saying.
Atletico are now understood to be looking for a new opponent to round out their pre-season programme.
