Sevilla ‘immersed’ in Sampaoli vision

Jorge Sampaoli says Sevilla are “immersed” in his vision for the club as he looks to implement a new style of play at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Speculation linking new boss Sampaoli with the Argentina vacancy has not affected Sevilla’s preseason preparations as they won a fourth straight friendly on Thursday, Sergio Escudero scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Mainz and wantaway striker Kevin Gameiro starting the game.

“What I can say is that we’ve put this team together with diligence, we’re working hard to change Sevilla’s style and that Sevilla play how the fans want them to. Hopefully we can do it,” the Coach noted to AS.

“We’re very immersed [in our preparation] and always thinking about the game against Real Madrid. Our preparations are linked to this [game], and we hope to reach it in the best way possible.

“We’re working hard to find our shape and the change in style, which we’re still getting used to.

“We played with attitude, but we should’ve made our chances count in the second half.

“The players must convince themselves that they can win this way. Our opponents were tough and we played under great difficulty.

“I want Sevilla to play like they did in the second half. German teams come at you very quickly, but we had seven clear chances to extend the lead.

“The idea is that, when we saw that we lost control, we’d regain it with Franco Vazquez in the middle.”
