‘Barca won’t sell for Gomes’

Barcelona won’t sell a midfielder to make way for Andre Gomes, it’s reported, as Luis Enrique still trusts all the players in the position.

Mundo Deportivo says Gomes – announced on Thursday night as bound for Barca after looking close to Real Madrid – came at the request of Luis Enrique, though other reports say only that the Coach gave his approval, and it was sporting director Robert Fernandez who drove the operation.

But the Catalan publication notes that Gomes’ arrival doesn’t mean Barca will have to sell a midfielder, amid speculation over the future of Arda Turan.

Instead, Enrique wants to see Arda’s best in his second season at Camp Nou, and the first in which he’ll be available for the full campaign after Barca’s transfer embargo ruled the Turkey captain out of the first six months.

Enrique also retains faith in Rafinha, and he won’t be pushed out to clear a gap for Portugal international Gomes.
