Montoya, Tello early for Barca training

Martin Montoya and Cristian Tello turned up for Barcelona’s first day of pre-season despite being given an August 8 return date.

AS reports the pair arrived almost three weeks early after being told to report next month as Luis Enrique doesn’t see either of them as part of his squad for the coming season.

But the players had to be allowed to train as per Article 8 of the convention signed with the AFE, the players’ union, and Article 7 of the Royal Decree that governs football.

The clauses say that players can only be prevented from training for reasons of illness, injury or suspension, and as Montoya and Tello both passed the physical tests, they had to be allowed to join in.

Enrique is though said to be concerned that his strained relationship with Montoya will affect the mood of the group, and he doesn’t want him to travel with the squad for the next part of pre-season in England.

Tello though has an offer from Fiorentina and could leave but Montoya is proving harder to shift as his contract is prohibitive to a lot of potential suitors, and it’s suggested that their presence at training was an attempt to push Barca into finding ways out for them.
