Barca, Suarez talking for new deal

Barcelona and Luis Suarez are talking about a new contract and the belief is the forward will be renewed without much of a fuss.

Sport reports it is Barca who have led the talks as the club realised Suarez should be placed on the same level, salary-wise, as Neymar – that is behind only Lionel Messi.

Meetings have already been held with Pere Guardiola, Suarez’s representative, and a rough outline of a contract has been agreed to provide the foundation for more formal talks.

Suarez isn’t pressing for a renewal himself and doesn’t want the negotiations to become a sideshow, talks set to continue in the next few days and expected to go without a hitch.

Sport adds that the whole club accepts Messi has to be the best-paid player but behind him should be Neymar and Suarez on the same level, but Neymar’s new contract puts him significantly higher than the Uruguayan.

Suarez is on the level of Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta but the intention is to move him up a step, even though he turns 30 in January and his long-term is less than Neymar.

Barca though recognise Suarez’s importance since moving from Liverpool in the summer of 2014 and want to acknowledge that financially, and his contract, which runs to 2019, will be given an extra year.
