Del Bosque: Pep the world’s best

Vicente del Bosque has tipped Pep Guardiola to succeed him as Spain boss one day as the Catalan “is the best Coach in the world”.

Spain have yet to announce a replacement for Del Bosque, who stepped down after La Roja exited Euro 2016 at the last-16 stage, but the veteran admits the newly-appointed Manchester City man would be the ideal candidate, despite his Catalan background.

“[Pep’s] the best Coach in the world, no doubt, for his successes, including the value he showed by going to Bayern Munich without really speaking German,” he told Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

“Why can’t a Catalan manage the Spanish national team? It would be great if we could help to bring Catalonia closer to the rest of Spain.

“I guess he’d earn less than at a club, but I can’t imagine that this would be important for someone who’s already earned so much money.

“[On who will succeed him as Spain boss], I’ll pass.”
