Sevilla ‘ignoring interest in Gameiro’

Sevilla President Jose Castro has warned that the club are “not looking at offers for Kevin Gameiro at this time”.

Gameiro has been linked with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona since the end of last season as both clubs are in the market for a new striker, but Castro insists the Andalusians are only interested in “renewing his contract and going on with him”.

“With Gameiro, all we want to do is renew [his contract] and go on with him,” he said at a BeIN Sports function on Friday, Marca reports.

“He has two seasons [left on his contract] with Sevilla. We’re not looking at offers for Kevin Gameiro at this time.

“[On Cristiano Ronaldo possibly missing the European Super Cup], for me it’s never good news when a player is injured. In football, you must win games with all your players.

“[On Joaquin Caparros possibly becoming Spain Coach], I think he’s the ideal coach because he’s without doubt a relic of the Spanish fury [La Furia Roja].

“I can’t be any more complementary about Caparros, not only because I know him but because he’s the Coach with the most official matches for Sevilla. He deserves it and would certainly succeed.”
