Morata ‘to sign five-year deal’

Alvaro Morata will reportedly sign a new, five-year contract worth €30m with Real Madrid next week and could be presented as the club’s first summer signing.

AS claims to have been told by Morata’s representatives that an agreement has been reached with Madrid, which will see him become one of the club’s best-paid players and earn significantly more than his current deal of €13.5m over three years.

The striker had attracted offers in the region of €70m from Chelsea and Arsenal, while the threat of a transfer ban and legal problems surrounding Karim Benzema only weakened Los Blancos’ negotiating position.

Madrid are now considering the possibility of unveiling the 23-year-old as their first summer signing in the Santiago Bernabeu’s royal box once the team return from their US tour, which concludes on August 3.

The former Juventus man could also be dealt a “golden opportunity” to stake his claim in Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury-induced absence against Sevilla in the European Super Cup two days after the tour.
