Valencia rival Roma for Nacho

Valencia have identified Real Madrid’s Nacho as their preferred target to bolster Pako Ayestaran’s defence despite Roma being on the scene.

Super Deporte reports interest in Nacho, whose name came up when sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch was speaking to Madrid about Alvaro Medran, the midfielder this week moving from Santiago Bernabeu to Mestalla.

Nacho is unlikely to win a regular place at Madrid, with Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Raphael Varane competing for centre-back places, and had appeared close to Roma for €11m, though the Serie A club have said they’re not in a hurry to wrap up the deal.

Valencia could step in but need to clear the decks a little more first to free up the money to pay for the 26-year-old, while reports in Italy have claimed Nacho will go to Roma on a year’s loan with an option to make it permanent.
