‘Ter Stegen to be Barca’s No 1’

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will supplant Claudio Bravo as Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper for the coming season, reports claim.

Sport cites Catalan station TV3 in saying Ter Stegen will be the starter in ‘all major competitions’ in 2016-17, a role-reversal from 2015-16 when it was Bravo who took the gloves in La Liga and Ter Stegen in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

The change comes after Ter Stegen allegedly agreed a move to Manchester City in the event Barca wouldn’t guarantee him top spot in the pecking order.

City have reportedly also asked Barca about Bravo and been in contact with the Chile international himself, though Barca would reportedly only consider selling Bravo if he asked to leave.

Sport say it’s not known if Bravo will accept the new status quo and be content as Ter Stegen’s back-up, but both have previously stated they wanted to stay at Camp Nou and President Josep Maria Bartomeu said earlier in July that each would remain this summer.
