Atletico Madrid are closing in on the signing of goalkeeper Axel Werner, who will represent Argentina at next month’s Rio Olympics.
According to Marca, Werner is seen as a future investment due to the existing presence of Jan Oblak and Miguel Angel Moya and should arrive next week.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with Atletico Rafaela in 2015-16 and has also played for Argentina’s Under-15, U17 and U20 teams.
Atleti have another non-EU spot to fill after Uruguayan defender Jose Maria Gimenez was granted dual citizenship on Saturday.
