Griezmann ‘still far behind Platini’

Antoine Griezmann insists “I’m still far behind Michel Platini”, despite only three goals separating the pair in the European Championship scoring stakes.

Griezmann upped his goal tally for Euro 2016 to six courtesy of his match-winning brace in France’s 2-0 victory over Germany on Thursday, which set up a final between his country and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, although the nine scored by Bleus legend Platini in 1984 remains unsurpassed.

“The penalty was more difficult than the one I missed in the Champions League [final]. Fortunately this one went better,” the Atletico Madrid forward said after the game.

“I’m still far behind Platini. This result is the reward for the work of the entire group, the coaching staff, doctors and those who didn’t play.”
