RFEF ‘want Puyol as technical director’

The Spanish Football Federation [RFEF] reportedly want Carles Puyol to become Spain’s technical director but are likely to be disappointed.

Mundo Deportivo claims the former Spain international has been identified to fulfil a role last held by Fernando Hierro, who had the respect of the current players as a standout of his generation, and knowledge of how the national team locker room works.

Puyol, however, is enjoying his career as a representative, having set up an agency with Ivan de la Pena, and isn’t expected to want to give it up to work for the RFEF.

Jose Claramunt currently holds a position with the Federation but he’s considered more of an administrator who helps the players and their families, not a problem solver in the locker room in the case of conflict.

Mundo Deportivo also believe Michel is now best-placed to succeed Vicente del Bosque, not Joaquin Caparros.
