Simeone: Heat of the moment

Diego Simeone has walked back comments made after Atletico Madrid lost the Champions League Final in which he suggested he could quit.

Cholo appeared to bring his future into question after defeat to Real Madrid on penalties but has admitted he spoke at a time when passions were at their highest.

“I spoke hot. Argentines are like that. Another thing is to not blame your opponent for winning. I learned that over time. You remember the pain and suffering and it’s necessary for you to improve yourself,” Cholo said, Marca reports, as he promoted his new book.

“I don’t think there are many teams better than us. Being better than Atletico is very difficult, because we play as a team. All corners of the club in the four-and-a-half years have constantly been anxious to improve. I see Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as better than Atletico, no one else.

“When you lose you feel empty, but you can never leave the way of working, persevering and having patience. Your wounds heal at home, then you come back and you fight.”
