Pellegrino returns to Alaves

La Liga new boys Alaves have appointed former defender Mauricio Pellegrino as their new Coach on a one-year contract.

Pellegrino spent the 2005-06 season with Alaves, his last as a professional footballer, and replaces Jose Bordalas, who quit the club less than a month after their promotion from La Segunda.

The 44-year-old’s only managerial experience in Spain to date came at Valencia, another of his former teams, although he only lasted the first half of the 11-12 campaign.

Pellegrino also played for Velez Sarsfield, Barcelona and Liverpool, the latter being where he began his coaching career, as a first-team coach under Rafa Benitez.

The Argentine arrives from his native Independiente and will be presented at 11:00 BST on Monday alongside President Alfonso Fernandez and sporting director Sergio Fernandez.
