Juanfran: If we scored the penalty…

Juanfran lamented Sergio Ramos’ missed penalty as Spain lost to Croatia but took a philosophical approach to facing Italy.

The defeat sent La Roja into what appears the more difficult side of the draw with the Azzurri the opponents in the Round of 16, but Atletico Madrid right-back Juanfran suggested the team will be better off with the extra competition.

“I don’t remember Croatia making any counter-attacks, except for the goal. If we’d have scored the penalty…” he reflected post-match, AS reports.

“Nothing has happened. We’re in the knockouts. We have no concerns. We are united and so the people are going to enjoy it more. Maybe we needed a game like this. We were better, but we have to be united.”
