UEFA has begun disciplinary proceedings against Croatia and Turkey after instances of crowd trouble in Friday’s Group D action at Euro 2016.
Although there has been no official acknowledgment from UEFA, BBC Sport reports charges have been brought for the scenes that were instigated by both Croatia fans in their 2-2 draw with Czech Republic and Turkey supporters in their 3-0 defeat to Spain.
Croatia are being investigated for “the setting off of fireworks, the throwing of objects, crowd disturbance and racist behaviour” by a group of their fans, while a minority of their Turkish counterparts were also seen letting off fireworks, plus invaded the pitch.
Croatia Coach Ante Cacic called the supporters who threw flares onto the pitch in their match “sports terrorists”, although it has since been claimed that the act was a staged protect against the country’s football association.
The BBC adds UEFAs control, ethics and disciplinary body will rule on the cases on Monday, just a week after Russia were given a suspended disqualification and fined €150,000 on similar grounds.
