Barca back in for Gameiro?

Barcelona have reportedly reopened talks with Sevilla over a possible deal to sign striker Kevin Gameiro.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the two clubs have held at least one conversation about Gameiro, who has a release clause of €40m, although Barca appear unwilling to pay so much for a player who would only be their fourth-choice forward.

The 29-year-old has reportedly known of the Catalans’ interest for some time, while their technical secretary Robert Fernandez considers him “a great player” and “the most suitable” attacking reinforcement, despite Los Nervionenses’ reputation as tough negotiatiors.

Indeed, MD cites sources close to Sevilla that the club do not intend to sell the Frenchman as they harbour ambitions of building and establishing a team capable of competing in the Champions League and could offer him a new contract.

Gameiro scored 29 goals in competitions as Sevilla won their third-straight Europa League, but he was only deemed worthy of France’s standby list for Euro 2016.
