Vela staying at La Real, Rulli close

Real Sociedad President Jokin Aperribay has spoken of complex deal for goalkeeper Gero Rulli and insists Carlos Vela is staying at Anoeta.

Aperribay was speaking in the context of the appointment of Roberto Olabe as director of football and used the club’s attempt to sign Rulli on a permanent deal from holding club Deportivo Maldonado as an example of the kind of work Olabe will be doing.

“The agreement with Maldonado is a fact, we have to finalise the paperwork, which isn’t easy, we have to wait until they are signed,” Aperribay said, AS reports.

“In the Rulli negotiation there are complex issues, a lot of parts and it will take time to close completely and to be able to announce it, but we are on the right track.”

Regarding Vela, who was expected to move to the MLS this summer, Aperribay said there was no question of his commitment to La Real.

“I’ve spoken with him and he is very committed. He has no intention of leaving. We want to have the best Vela,” the President added.

“Jonathas? There’s nothing in this regard. It doesn’t mean anything that he wasn’t [on the tour of the United States]. He had a personal matter and was given permission not to go. Nothing more.”
