Luciano Vietto is being touted for a possible return to Villarreal after failing to impress with Atletico Madrid last season.

The Argentine joined Atleti from the Yellow Submarine 12 months ago for a fee reported to be in the region of €20m.

However, despite featuring in 28 games in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s men, Vietto started just 17 times and, according to AS, his representatives feel a change of scenery may be beneficial to the player – either a permanent transfer with a buy-back clause or a loan arrangement.

Vietto scored 20 goals for Villarreal during the 2014-15 season and boss Marcelino would welcome him back, although there have been a host of other clubs monitoring his situation at the Vicente Calderon.

Sevilla, Celta Vigo, Barcelona and Valencia are all understood to have been keeping tabs on him, while there has also been interest from Italy, with Lazio and Inter Milan leading the way.

The problem for Atletico is that they would like to recoup the money invested in Vietto a year ago, yet they are aware that to let him leave would be running the risk of discarding such a prodigious young talent.
