Bruno Soriano says he is keen to force his way into Vicente del Bosque’s starting line-up as Spain begin their Euro 2016 campaign.
The experienced 32-year-old, who is taking part in his first major international tournament after starring for Champions League-bound Villarreal last season, accepts it will be difficult to displace players such as Thiago Alcantara, Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta.
Nonetheless, with Del Bosque’s line-up unclear for the opener against the Czech Republic in Toulouse on Monday, Soriano is remaining calm over a possible inclusion.
“I feel really comfortable and am eager to play, as we all are, but I’ve never had this opportunity before and I’m lucky enough to be able to live through it,” he told Marca.
“It’s all a bit new to me in a way but it’s not too different to how we live with our clubs. We train well, eat well, and focus on our objectives.”
The Villarreal star is also aware of the potential dangers in Group D, with Turkey and Croatia making up the other teams, and believes it will not be easy to progress to the next stage.
“We are facing some tough opponents. Turkey and Croatia are very good sides, so we want to get off to a good start by winning our first match.
“We’ll take it from there and see how we approach the following games,” he explained.
