Celta tracking Man City stopper

Celta Vigo boss Eduardo Berizzo’s search for a goalkeeper has seen Willy Caballero’s name the latest to be placed on the table.

Berizzo believes the Manchester City stopper, also wanted by Espanyol, is a good option after ruling out the signing of River Plate´s Marcelo Baravero, who has since joined Mexican outfit Necaxa.

Caballero still has a year left on his on contract at the Etihad Stadium, but has started just five times since his signing from Malaga in July 2014 and is likely to see first-team opportunities limited even further with the imminent arrival of Pep Guardiola.

However, despite Berizzo having no qualms about Caballero’s age – he will be 35 in September – Mundo Deportivo reports that a major stumbling block could prove to be the player’s salary, given he is understood to earn around €2.5m per season in England.

Any deal would need the Argentine to lower his pretensions considerably, while Celta are also running the rule over Atletico Madrid’s Miguel Angel Moya and Vicente Guaita of Getafe.
