Villarreal reach Cheryshev agreement

Villarreal have come to an arrangement with Real Madrid for the transfer of winger Denis Cheryshev, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The Yellow Submarine have agreed to acquire 50 per cent of the Russian’s rights, for which they will pay the European champions between €7m and €8m, meaning that if Villarreal sell the player to another club in the future Madrid will receive half of any fee.

Although relations between Villarreal and Real Madrid have been strained in recent times, with the latter accusing the other of not informing them Cheryshev was suspended from the Copa del Rey when on loan at El Madrigal, earning Madrid expulsion from the competition, it appears any rough edges have now been smoothed out.

The 25-year-old spent the 2014-15 season on loan with Villarreal, scoring four goals in 26 La Liga appearances, before spending the second half of the 2015-16 campaign on a similar arrangement with Valencia.

However, his desire to return to Villarreal seems to have tipped the balance in their favour, along with the lure of Champions League football next term.
