Barcelona reportedly face a fight to keep Javier Mascherano but are confident that they will convince the Argentine into staying put.
According to Sport, Mascherano finds himself in “an awkward position” at Barca due to matters “in the dressing room and others out of it”, but the club’s management will meet with the player after Copa America and before preseason to reach a solution.
Mascherano’s value is believed to go beyond his performance on the pitch as he is also considered vital to the squad, both as a mediator to Luis Enrique and the board.
Juventus remain interested in the defender-midfielder, but Barca could deter him with an improved contract, which would see the 32-year-old retire and begin his coaching career at Camp Nou.
