‘Spain still among Euro favourites’

Georgia boss Vladimir Weiss insists Spain remain among the favourites for Euro 2016, despite his side’s 1-0 win in Getafe.

Tornike Okriashvili’s [pictured, left] lone goal towards the end of the first half earned Georgia a memorable victory and condemned Spain to their first loss 11 matches, but Weiss – father of his former Espanyol namesake – is adamant La Roja will still compete in France.

“Georgia needed this result. It gives us a lot of strength and confidence. We’re not a great team, but what we’ve achieved is a great joy for us,” the Coach said after the game.

“Spain have some top players like [Andres] Iniesta. They fought well, but the best team were the winners.

“Spain are certainly among the favourites. I really like Spanish football and I’m happy to have won, but that doesn’t mean that Spain are no longer among the favourites.

“They can [on Spain’s opponents doing what Georgia did], but each team have their own recipe [of playing].

“Spain have a great team, with [Vicente] del Bosque, who is very intelligent and has achieved a lot of success.”
