Bailly to United ‘imminent’

The British Press believes Manchester United will soon sign Villarreal defender Eric Bailly, for a fee approaching €40m.

Reports from publications including the Daily Mirror and the Daily Telegraph say Bailly will become the first signing of Jose Mourinho’s tenure as manager, 18 months after he moved to El Madrigal from Espanyol.

Villarreal reportedly asked for more of the fee to be paid up front after an agreement had been reached between the clubs, and the full value of the transfer could top £30m, depending on clauses and bonuses.

Manchester City, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are all said to have been interested in the 22-year-old but either dropped their pursuit or lost out to the Red Devils.
