Villarreal Coach Marcelino is now the favourite to succeed Vincente del Bosque as Spain Coach after Euro 2016.
Del Bosque intends to step down after the tournament and Marca reports Marcelino is at the front of a pack that includes Unai Emery, Paco Jemez and Julen Lopetegui.
Marcelino renewed at El Madrigal in November and has a contract to 2019 but his club are on alert to the possibility he could be offered the national team bench and are keeping tabs on options for his replacement should he switch jobs.
Del Bosque’s contract ends on July 10 and though Spanish Football Federation President Angel Maria Villar wants him to stay on, the World Cup-winner is insistent on retiring, and Villar is giving the impression he has accepted Del Bosque’s decision.
