Espanyol appoint new sporting director

Espanyol have confirmed that Angel Gomez will stay on as the club’s sporting director for three more years.

Gomez had been in the role on an interim basis following the departure of Oscar Perarnau last January, and Espanyol announced on Saturday that the 39-year-old would be kept on.

As such, Gomez will be leading the club’s search for a new Coach and overseeing their recruitment drive for next season, the first in full under new Chinese owners.

Gomez joined Los Periquitos in 2011, initially responsible for their efforts in the South American market, before being promoted to technical secretary.

He also holds a UEFA Pro Licence and Psychology degree and spent time in Ecuador, namely with Barcelona SC.
