United considering shock Messi bid?

The English Press claim Manchester United are considering a shock move for “frustrated and hurt” Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

According to the Daily Mail, United have switched their attentions to Messi after failing in their attempts to land Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Neymar, to the extent that they have made two enquiries in the last three weeks for the No 10.

Messi’s contract still has another two years left to run, but the Argentine is reportedly seeking “certain assurances” if he is to extend that deal.

The newspaper cites sources close to the 28-year-old, who have refused to rule out the possibility of a move and claimed that the player is “increasingly frustrated and hurt” by the media circus in Spain surrounding his tax affairs.

United, meanwhile, recently appointed former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho as their new Coach and have been heavily linked with Messi’s ex-Barca teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Any transfer would “smash” the world-record €100m that Real Madrid paid Tottenham Hotspur for Gareth Bale in 2013.
