Cavani: Godin says I’d like Atletico

Edinson Cavani confirms he and Diego Godin have talked Atletico Madrid but the Uruguay striker could be ‘unattainable’ for the club.

AS says Cavani was at the top of Los Colchoneros’ wanted list, with Diego Costa and Gonzalo Higuain, but thoughts have moved on to Alexandre Lacazette and Kevin Gameiro, despite Cavani telling a Uruguayan TV programme that he has discussed Atletico with Godin.

“I spoke to Godin and he told me I would like being part of Atletico,” Cavani is quoted as saying.

However, Atletico are dissuaded from pursuing Cavani after their interactions with Paris Saint-Germain last summer, when the Ligue 1 club refused to sell Thiago Motta, and the feeling is they would be even more intractable when it came to Cavani – particularly with Zlatan Ibrahimovic having left and Cavani being tagged as his replacement.

Costa and Higuain are considered to be similarly out of reach and the situations on all three players would only change if PSG, Chelsea and Napoli signed replacements of a similar level, which would in turn encourage them to discuss departures.
