Ronaldo: Madrid are better than Atleti

Cristiano Ronaldo believes Real Madrid are superior to Champions League Final opponents Atletico Madrid but ‘have to prove it on the pitch.’

The sides meet in Milan on Saturday and Ronaldo, having downplayed fears he was injured in training, told reporters he is sure Los Blancos will come out on top.

“Maybe our experience in finals is important. Perhaps we have that advantage but it isn’t everything. We expect the game to be completely different. Atletico will want to win but we’re prepared. We can’t let them win, we’ll be better, more intense and I’m confident we’ll win,” AS quotes the Portuguese as saying.

“We’ll be as motivated as normal. We’re training well, we’re focused and we’ll be focused on game day. That’s the key to success. Not just for me. It’ll be a good day and we’ll win.

“The fans are with us, supporting as they did in recent games, to make a magical night. The game of Atleti’s lives? It’s the game of our lives too. At the moment, my thought is lifting the cup and the time to do it is Saturday. I don’t care about Barcelona, just Madrid and the final.”

“Atletico are the same as two years ago, they play the same. It will be difficult, they give you few chances and get everyone behind the ball. It’s very difficult. You have to have patience and think positively and if we are at our level I’m confident we’ll win.

“We were the two best teams in 2014 so we played the final. It’s the same this year. Let’s see who is best. I’m very positive. Madrid are better than Atletico but we have to prove it on the pitch. I think we’ll win.

“We deserve to be in the final, we wouldn’t be here if we didn’t. After the year we had…we started soft. We improved a lot [with Zinedine Zidane]. If we win, we’d be deserving, but Atletico have their good things. This year has to be for Madrid. Losing would be a failure for us, but we will win.”
